I am a firm believer in fostering diversity in the greater mathematical sciences. The stories of Emmy Noether, Alan Turing, Katherine Johnson, and other people who fought adversity in mathematics on the basis of their personhood tell us that diversity is not something to be taken for granted, but fought for every day–regardless of whether we share their adversity, we must stand together against it nonetheless.
I bring this attitude towards teaching, research, collaboration, and life as a whole. Only when mathematicians can bring their full selves to the table (or meeting room, or conference, or acceptance speech) can mathematics truly be realized to its fullest potential.
