Professor Collard currently serves as senior associate dean of the College of Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has been a member of the faculty of the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Georgia Tech since 1991.

Dr. Collard’s research interests include the development of new conjugated organic materials and the preparation of new biomaterials. He also has extensive interests in chemical education, with recent programs supported by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation and 3MGives that are focused on the creation of opportunities for experiential learning and broadening participation in research careers. For the period 2002-18, he co-directed the NSF-sponsored Chemistry Collaborations, Workshops and Communities of Scholars program (cCWCS) that supported a nationwide network of faculty development workshops which provided over 3,000 chemistry faculty with opportunities to explore new course content and pedagogies. He currently directs Georgia Tech’s participation in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Inclusive Excellence program that aims to promote inclusive instruction through reflective teaching evaluation and faculty development.

Professor Collard received the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation New Faculty Award, Lilly Foundation Fellowship, Research Corporation Cottrell Scholarship, and National Science Foundation CAREER award. In addition, he has received Georgia Tech’s Roane Beard Outstanding Teacher Award, the Howard Ector Outstanding Teacher Award, the Institute’s Eichholz Award, the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Advisor Award, the Professional Education Award, and the Outstanding Use of Educational Technology Award. He is also the recipient of the University System of Georgia’s Felton Jenkins, Jr. Hall of Fame Faculty Award.

Dr. Collard obtained his B.Sc. (Hons.) degree from the University of East Anglia (U.K.), during which he participated in the inaugural year of an international exchange program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His senior honors thesis was supervised by Professor Alexander (Sandy) McKillop. He returned to the University of Massachusetts to complete his Ph.D. with Professor C. Peter Lillya. He went on to complete a post-doctoral position at the University of Texas at Austin with Professor Mary Anne Fox prior to moving to Georgia Tech.
