It’s important to consider how architect has changed over the years because to many, architecture is a somewhat esoteric field, and most people feel far-removed from the design process. Simply by spending time inside buildings, people put their lives in the hands of architects every day without thinking about it. Not knowing anything about the process that went into putting those buildings there is akin to someone getting a surgery without knowing anything about the operation they are undergoing. They may not be able to do anything with the information, but knowing that the process is sound and well-developed gives confidence in their decision to trust these people.

Additionally, with the implementation of new technologies like virtual reality and simulations, architects now have the ability to better communicate their plans to people with absolutely no architectural knowledge or training. Knowing about these new technologies might get people to be more involved in the architectural process, and allows us to have a hand in designing our own environment when we couldn’t before.
