21st Century Trade Politics: The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership as a Test Case

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiation is the first major trade negotiation to seek seriously to overcome regulatory differences. In addition, the transatlantic economy is uniquely interpenetrated unparalleled levels of foreign direct investment and intra-firm trade and extensive integration into global value chains. As a consequence, the political mobilization around the negotiations in both the US and EU is unlike that seen before. Thus TTIP is an early manifestation of 21st century trade politics. This work package will be a serious attempt to draw early lessons from the new pattern of trade politics and policy.
This project has resulted in several publications and associated activities. A project workshop will be held at Georgia Tech on 29-30 April 2016.
