Workshop: Peroxy Acids as Emerging Oxidants for Water Treatment

Date: May 23, 2019
Location: Ford ES&T L1205, 311 Ferst Drive, Atlanta, GA 30318
About Peroxy Acids

Peroxy acids (POAs, e.g. peracetic acid, performic acid and others) are effective disinfectants widely used in many fields.  In recent years, the application of POAs in wastewater treatment has gained growing interest.  With concerns of harmful disinfection byproducts (DBPs) by the conventional chlorine-based disinfectants, the low toxic byproducts of POAs could be highly attractive. The reactivity of POAs may also be utilized for advanced oxidation treatment of micropollutants. While the use of POAs is growing, more study is still needed to improve the scientific knowledge of POAs and their environmental applications. The goal of this workshop is to stimulate academic and industrial exchange of information on the scientific developments of peroxy acids in water treatment. There will be presentations from the Georgia Tech research team. Other presentations on POAs from research groups and industry are also welcome.
