Georgia Tech Community COVID-19 Response

The unprecedented and rapid worldwide spread of COVID-19 has created an urgent situation, and the Georgia Tech community is responding.

Georgia Tech Community Response to COVID-19

This website was created in response to global, federal and state health and emergency efforts regarding the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and describes some of the efforts underway at Georgia Tech. In alignment with its educational and research mission, Georgia Tech is working to support the health and well-being of our campus community, the City of Atlanta and the State of Georgia with various COVID-19 related efforts.

Faculty, staff and students from Georgia Tech schools, colleges, research centers and the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), along with the Global Center for Medical Innovation (GCMI), are actively interacting directly with colleagues (e.g., doctors and supply chain managers) at local area hospitals including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Emory Healthcare and its affiliates, Piedmont Healthcare, and Kaiser Permanente. The greatest need at this point is for personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE is urgently needed by healthcare workers who are facing diminishing supplies on-hand and constrained by supply chains. These include: face shields, masks, respirators, and gowns. There is also an anticipated need for life support equipment such as ventilators.

To assist with PPE supply shortages, Georgia Tech, in some instances, with assistance from other contributors, has developed and produced equipment and supplies as additional public health measures in accordance with the recommended Strategies to Optimize the Supply of PPE and Equipment as set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Please note the CDC will continue to issue new strategies, guidance and recommendations regarding PPE and public health measures as new evidence develops. Thus, please check the CDC website regularly for the latest updates, guidance and recommendations regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

CAVEAT: The information on this website is being made available due to current emergency conditions to assist with PPE shortages affecting healthcare workers and others fighting on the front lines against the COVID-19 pandemic. As Georgia Tech’s research and development progresses to meet various PPE shortage needs, updates will be posted on this website.

However, given that the COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly evolving situation and guidance, research and development is continually being updated, as new evidence is revealed, information on this website may be incomplete or no longer applicable. Accordingly, this website and the information published via this website will be available only as long as the current COVID-19 pandemic emergency conditions exists. Once such emergent conditions cease, this website and the information may be removed.
