UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
My lab will have plenty of opportunities for GT students to be involved with active research. Opportunities are limited at the moment while the lab gets set up, but our research program will be in full swing by summer 2024. Please get in touch with me if you would like to discuss undergraduate research!
GRADUATE STUDENTS
I am currently considering graduate students to start in Fall ’25 (applications due Dec ’24)
(My graduate student capacity for start in Fall ’24 had already been reached)
Please get in touch with me if you’re interested in joining my lab. Georgia Tech is awesome, as is Atlanta: we even have green anoles on campus outside our lab!
I can accept graduate students to Georgia Tech through both the School of Biological Sciences and the QBioS (Quantitative Biosciences) program. If you’re curious about learning more about graduate school in ecology and evolution, including demystifying the often-opaque and confusing route of actually applying, then you can read more about it here!
I take my role as a mentor very seriously, and I want all of my students to succeed in the areas that they are most passionate. From the start of your graduate career we will draft Individual Development Plans together, creating a framework for how we will work together to allow you to grow and develop towards your professional goals. I am looking for prospective students who have a high degree of independence and enthusiasm for scientific research. My current research interests are broadly twofold: 1) evolutionary community ecology: using field studies of natural selection in the wild to connect eco-evo process at local scales to larger eco-evo patterns across space and time, and 2) thermal physiology of tropical lizards, especially how it relates to climate change and invasive species. However, my research interests across ecology and evolution are very broad; I am particularly interested in connecting micro-process to macro-patterns (across both ecology and evolution). If you have ideas along these lines, or if your own passions lie outside of this but within the general scope of our lab’s aims, then please feel free to discuss them with me.
We generally work with lizards because it is a group of organisms that are both perfect candidates for the types of research that I am interested in, as well as our lab having a deep and diverse knowledge of their natural history.
POSTDOCS
I am accepting applications for postdocs starting straight away! Please contact me if you think your research interests align with mine. I have lots of data and even more ideas, and I am also always excited to discuss your research interests and plans.
There are two paths to postdoc opportunities in my lab. First, I have some funding to directly support a postdoc in my lab. Second, I can help you develop proposals for external fellowship support, such as the NSF postdoctoral research fellowships in biology (PRFB) which offers a $60,000/year stipend and $20,000/year research and training funds. I would be very excited to discuss research ideas with you for these opportunities.
