This work lead by Xin Ma entitled “Triboelectric nanogenerator-coated blade spray mass spectrometry for volume-limited drug analysis” published in the International Journal of Mass Spectrometry shows it is possible to extract and analyze drug samples in a pulsed fashion at sub-nanogram to picogram levels with good stability and reproducibility using coated scalpel blades.

This collaborative work entitled “Divergent Skeletal Muscle Metabolomic Signatures of Different Exercise Training Modes Independently Predict Cardiometabolic Risk Factors” published in diabetes investigated the link between enhancement of SI (by hyperinsulinemic–euglycemic clamp) and muscle metabolites after 12 weeks of aerobic (high-intensity interval training [HIIT]), resistance training (RT), or combined training (CT) exercise in 52 lean healthy individuals.

This review article lead by Daniel Vallejo and Joe Corstvet entitled “Triboelectric nanogenerators: Low-cost power supplies for improved electrospray ionization” published in the International Journal of Mass Spectrometry highlights the fundamentals of ESI driven by DC power supplies, its contrasting qualities to triboelectric nanogenerator power supplies, and its applications to three distinct fields of research: forensics, metabolomics, and protein structure analysis.

Daniel’s Collaboration with the Robert C. William Museum of Papermaking is Published Digitally
Postdoctoral Fellows Nasreen Khan and Daniel Vallejo spearhead research for cultural heritage objects at Georgia Tech. Collaborating with MSE professor Mark Losego, The Mill Fellow Blake Moore, and MSE Postdoc Nicolas Somers to analyze fibers from papermaking artifacts in the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking collection.
