Xin Ma joined Dr Fernández’s lab in February 2021 as a post-doctoral fellow. He obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry from Purdue University under the guidance of Dr Hilkka Kenttämaa in December 2020. His Ph.D. thesis focused on fundamental studies of gas-phase ion-molecule reactions using mass spectrometry. In Dr Fernández’s lab, Xin’s main research interests include mass spectrometry imaging studies of animal tissues using an ultra-high-resolution Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer for early-stage cancer diagnosis and biomarker discovery, and instrumentation modifications for metabolomics studies on marine waterborne samples. Xin enjoys cooking, traveling, and playing tennis outside the lab.
