Tanner received a BS degree in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering from the University of South Alabama (2019), where he was advised by Dr. Kevin West and studied gas-expanded ionic liquids as well as functionalization of cellulose for different applications. He joined the PhD program in the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Tech in 2019, where he is advised by Dr. Carson Meredith and Dr. Natalie Stingelin.

His primary research focuses on material formulation of polysaccharide-based “plastic alternatives” for applications in high humidity, and his research interests more broadly include the physics, processing, and recycling/upcycling of polymers. In his personal time, Tanner enjoys hiking, camping, taking road trips to the Smoky Mountains, and playing soccer.
