Metaverse Park Service

The Metaverse Park Service supports a design agenda rooted in environmental protection, imagining new paradigms of privacy and sustainable data ecologies with XR technology. MPS developed Privacy Ranger as gamified survey equipment to improve awareness of privacy issues and map emerging information norms in the metaverse. Privacy Ranger is a mixed methods research tool that utilizes Helen Nissenbaum’s “Privacy as Contextual Integrity” framework to make data flows in the metaverse quick, easy, and fun to explore. The project helps XR builders, designers, and researchers to collect qualitative and quantitative data about the acceptability of different data flows and engage the public in considering the potential societal consequences of privacy in the metaverse. Through its creation and evaluation of data flows, Privacy Ranger fosters useful discussions that can shape privacy policy and data practices across the XR ecosystem.
