In conjunction with the ATL@GT meeting in Houston, Texas, in November of 2023, students at ATL@GT along with Dr. Laurie Garrow visited the NASA’s Space Center. The group had the opportunity to check out multiple flown spacecraft, go inside the shuttle replica Independence – mounted on top of the historic and original NASA 905 shuttle carrier aircraft-, learn more about NASA’s Artemis program and the International Space Station, visit the Astronaut Training Facility and discover what it takes to travel to Mars.
However, the highlight of the trip was the visit to the iconic Christopher C. Kraft Mission Control, the place from which NASA led Gemini and Apollo missions, where the group had a chance to watch a reenactment of the momentous first lunar landing mission.
The day concluded with watching the Houston Rockets beat the Denver Nuggets at Toyota Center, a thrilling experience for the group and especially Gabriel, a die-hard Rockets fan.
