Dr. Jeff Newman is a part-time research engineer in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Newman is an expert in travel demand modeling and one of the lead developers of ActivitySim, an open-source activity-based travel model for ground transportation. He developed Larch, an open-source library for discrete choice models that has been downloaded over 100,000 times. Dr. Newman has been involved in a variety of revenue management projects, most notably an NSF grant on choice-based revenue management in which he developed computational methods that decreased estimation times from hours to seconds for representative problem sizes.
